The visuals for The Pharcyde‘s record, “Drop,” produced by the late J Dilla was released 20 years ago, and it’s still one of the most innovative music videos ever made.
Director Spike Jonze filmed the Los Angeles rap group in 1995 as they walked and moved about backwards while reciting their lyrics in reverse, which were phonetically transcribed backwards and deciphered with the help of a professional linguist. In the final cut, the track is played normally and the rest is simply a masterpiece.
That’s some next level creativity for ya.
