This was so hard to watch.
There were rumors floating around in the past that Black Rob appeared unhealthy due to drugs. It turns out that he has high blood pressure from heavy alcohol consumption while touring, trouble breathing, and takes ten pills daily. In addition, he had a mild stroke…in his sleep.
Sway: “High blood pressure costs the nation about $46 billion dollars each year. […] The rap game don’t have no health insurance.”
Black Rob: “Word.”
Heather B: “People don’t realize that. A lot of times when you sign your deals and you get on the union AFTRA, they don’t let you know that you have to make a certain amount of money every year to maintain your health insurance at AFTRA. They send you there for one thing. You don’t know about SAG until you get a part in a movie, and they don’t tell you that you have to maintain a certain amount of money every year to keep your health insurance. So you’re walking around, you do your tours, you do your shows, and you may feel a little funny, but you think it’s part of the everyday grind and hustle. So you constantly keep going with the Henny, with the weed, and you don’t realize it. Then you go for insurance: a doctor visit $250, $300; the medicine $150, $200. Then you have a longstanding condition. How you supposed to maintain yourself, but your label making millions and you have no health insurance?”
Sway: “Do you have health insurance, Rob?”
Black Rob: “Nah.”
Sway: “Damn. […] It’s very important that men go to the doctor…women too, but men are less likely to go. Y’all do yearly checkups. We don’t do that. Go get a check up! There’s a lot of young dudes in their 20s catching seizures. All the pills, smoking, and drinking you do is gonna catch up eventually if you don’t balance it out.”
